12th Grade College Checklist

• Make sure you're ENROLLED IN THE COURSES NECESSARY to graduate and get into college
  
  
• Do your BEST IN EVERY CLASS
  
  
• Take the ACT & SAT
  
  
• BE INVOLVED in your school and community
  
  
• READ for enjoyment
  
  
• Register for SELECTIVE SERVICE
  
  
• Ask for LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION for applications
  
  
• Attend COLLEGE FAIRS
  
  
• Narrow your college list to about 4-6 SCHOOLS
  
  
• APPLY to colleges early
  
  
• Apply for a FEDERAL STUDENT AID PIN
  
  
• Search and apply for SCHOLARSHIPS & GRANTS
  

JANUARY - FEBRUARY

• Collect your personal financial and tax information.
  
  
• Register for and attand an I KNOW I CAN FAFSA WORKSHOP
  
  
• Complete and submit your FAFSA
  
  
• Get an I KNOW I CAN GRANT APPLICATION

MARCH - APRIL

• Review your SAR with your I Know I Can College Advisor
  
  
• Visit your favorite colleges (if possible) and FINALIZE YOUR CHOICE
  
  
• Look for ACCEPTANCE PACKETS in the mail. Return the appropriate papers and fees.

MAY

• WITHDRAW applications
  
  
• Notify the guidance office about your college choice and request a FINAL TRANSCRIPT be sent to you college in June.
  

JUNE

• APPLY FOR THE STAFFORD LOAN (allow 8 weeks for it to be processed)
  
  
• RECEIVE AND REVIEW INFORMATION on the orientation session, scheduling and housing for your college
  
  
• WRITE THANK YOU NOTES to those individuals who wrote recommendation letters and helped you acheive you college goals
